JUDGES & OFFICIALS

BECOME A JUDGE!

It takes many volunteer judges/officals to run any boulder or difficulty competition whether it be boulder, difficulty. Speed events also require officals but no as many. Sanctioned competitions can not happen these amazing volunteer. The role of judges and officials is to ensure events are run according to the IFSC rules / SCBC rules and is judged fairly and consistantly from event to event. Thus creating a fair, well run and fun invironment for our atheltes to compete and develop. You do not need a lot of knowledge to start down the judges path and join our create climbing volunteer community. There is a lot of support and training along the way as you develop as a judge or offical and is a great way to get front row seats to the action.

JUDGES PATHWAY

Assistant Line Judge - Mentors under and assists Line Judge
Line Judge - Drirectly judges the competitors in the competition
Assistant Head Judge - Mentors under and assists Head Judge
Head Judge - supports and manages the Line Judge and offers guidance as well as dealing with appeals
Assistant Jury President - Mentors under and assists Jury President
Jury President - is responsilbe for the entire event in terms of ensuring the event is run in accordance with IFSC/SCBC rules and deals with appeals. In conjunction with the Technical Delegate is also responsible to ensure IFSC & SCBC safety protocols are followed.

Note: most smaller local events will have a one official taking on the duties of both Head Judge and Jury President

The Assistant Line Judge is the entry level position where you are teamed up with an experienced Line Judge and you work with and mentor under. As you gain experience, you will be moved in to Line Judge and when you have many events under your belt as a Line Judge, you can apply for Head Judge training where you will start as an Assistant Head Judge. YOu may apply for Jury President training after being a Jead Judge for serval events.

TECHNICAL DELEGATE

The Technical Delegate (TD) is an important offical that deals with anything technical or logistical for the event and ensures all the event are run in following SCBC rules and policies. The TD works with the event organizers, head setter and works very closely withe Head Judge and/or Jury President as well as assists with appeals. Volunteering as a Line Judge and or Head Judge will be an asset to becoming a Technical Delegate. Successful applicants will be work with experinced TD's to gain knowledge and experience before becoming at TD themselves.

BASIC LINE JUDGES TRAINING & RESOURCES

Training night for Line Judges happens throughout the season normally run the night before events. Watch for annoucements when the next training night is.
